In a new interview with Flick and the City, Step Up 3D actress Sharni Vinson has revealed that she’s very keen on playing Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot. Said Vinson on what will surely be an action heavy role, “It’s those exact type of roles that I’m really seeking.” She continued, “Roles that I can sink my teeth into as an actor but also as someone that [grew up] with so many sports and is super, super physical. The more you can put me in training and the more I can actually do on a set, the better for me. Standing and delivering a line every now and then gets quite old, quite quickly. When it comes to physical roles, I thrive on that and something like the Lara Croft series would just be amazing because it’s the same type of female empowerment that we’re trying to get across and I think is just a stand-up role model for all women out there. If I could be the one that can portray that and hopefully kickstart that off again in this generation, that would be amazing. Because it’s been a while I feel, that we’ve had that female role model to look up to and that’s what attracted me to [You're Next].”
Vinson will soon be turning head in the upcoming horror film You’re Next from Lionsgate Entertainment. After premiering at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, the Snoot Entertainment film took a lengthy bit of time to find a distributor (Lionsgate) but the film will finally be released in US theaters on August 23. Film critics have praised the film and have been scratching their heads about why it has taken so long for the film to be released. If Vinson’s performance is as good as the critics say, she may very well inject herself into the mix of potential candidates to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot.
